Linda Martin Linda Martin

Linda Martin, is one of Ireland ’s most popular celebrities. She was born in Belfast but now lives near Dublin. She was a member of the band chips. Chips was one of the most popular and innovative bands in Irish music history and was instrumental in the development of the business in Northern and Southern Ireland. They released many singles, toured with the Bay City Rollers and appeared on many TV shows such as Top of the Pops and Opportunity Knocks.

Linda has had nine entries in the National Song Contest making her the most frequent entrant in a National final. She came second in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1984 with 'Terminal 3' and won in Malmo, Sweden for Ireland in 1992 with 'Why Me?'

Linda was managed by Louis Walsh and continued to perform with her own band long after Chips had split up. She also recorded an album during this time but she gave up singing a few years ago to concentrate on her television work. She has presented the popular quiz show 'The Lyrics Board', been a judge on the original 'Popstars' and has made many other guest appearances including becoming an interior designer for a week on Showhouse.

She has been on the cover of VIP MAGAZINE twice and shared her fashion advice on “Off The Rails”
Linda had been the long term judge on TV talent show 'You're A Star'. In June the shows producer took a very unpopular decision to change the judging panel and not include Linda in the new line up. This resulted in a campaign being set up to have her reinstated. The petition to date stands at  100 000 signatures making it the biggest petition ever to have someone return to TV.

Due to popular demand she returned to the stage last October to play "Soap Star" in Menopause the Musican. It proved yet again Linda's popularity selling out every night she appeared in it.

In December she appeared in Snot White, which ran until the end of January selling out again every night.

She is currently filming a programme for RTE's Autumn schedule researching her family tree.

Linda has always loved animals and is very involved with animal welfare. It is one of the most important things in her life. She takes care of horses, cats and 17 rescue dogs at present.
